Going into the final round the 2016 British Open Champion Henrik Stenson held a 1 shot lead over Kevin Na, Ollie Schniederjans and Webb Simpson. One of the great story lines in the final round was 53 year old Davis Love III just 3 shots back and in striking distance to pick up another win on the PGA Tour.
The final round was very back and forth with Kevin Na having a 2 shot lead early on the back nine. Na then bogeyed 11 and 13 to fall out of the lead and Stenson took the lead and never looked back. He birdied 13, 15, 16 and 17 to get to -22 and with a par on 18 defeated Schniederjans by 1 shot.
While he came up a shot short, Schniederjansm, had a great week and ended up in second place all on his own. We still can’t believe that he doesn’t wear a hat, there is way too much money to be made on head wear on tour and his agent should be screaming at him to get more money.
This week was full of a lot of suspense as it was the last week to get into the top 125 of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Harold Varner III moved from 138 to 123 today. Rory Sabbatini birdied the final hole to get into the playoffs. Those were 2 of the best moves of the week. JJ Henry became the bubble boy finishing 125 on the list to qualify for The Northern Trust next week in New York.
The first guy out of the playoffs was Zac Blair. That is a tough spot to be in and were sure disappointing for him.
The rooting favorite today was Davis Love III. After a final round 69 he ended up tied for 10th.
Dads Say So, the end of the day today proved to be very competitive. Congrats to Henrik Stenson on getting another Golfing Dad a victory on tour. Congrats Henrik. Well played this week and you deserved the win. We all wish we could hit 3 wood as far as you!
