So the Rickie Fowler invitational concluded today with Rickie winning by 4 shots. Lets be real. He limped into the house and had built up a large enough lead that it didn’t matter.
Gary Woodland made it close on the back nine but it was to no avail. It seemed that every time someone got close today Rickie’s putter bailed him out. We guess the “Cash is King” putter cover was working its karma today in full effect.
In looking at the week there were a few things to take out of it. First Wesley Bryan had another top ten. He may have figured out that trick shots may be fun but hitting butter cuts and cashing checks pays better.
Chad Collins had a great week and when he wakes up Monday morning is going to be in the passing lane on the World Golf Rankings list going like Weezy Jefferson movin’ on up from number 450.
Last but not least Rickie Winning! Not only did he win a shiny trophy to add to his collection but on Saturday night he won the social media award for the week too. After his round he got stuck with the media late and went on his Instagram account and apologized to the fans that he didn’t come back out and sign autographs for them. Class move and a great way to treat the fans.
People can say what they want about his orange on orange or his flat brim, he is one of the best with his fans and it is why when you go to an event you see his “min-me” running around the outside of the ropes.
Rickie winning is great for the game. He is likable; signs autographs; poses for great photos after the Ryder Cup; takes time for the media and his fans; and has never backed his Mercedes into a fire hydrant and been caught up in any scandal. So keep on cheering for him.
Sure he may struggle in getting wins and should have won more by now but winning out on tour isn’t easy. There are a lot of great players out there and Rickie has figured out how to win at TPC Sawgrass and PGA National. Two tracks that are tough to win on. We think he will be fine.
We want to hand out some kudos to Honda Motor Corporation for giving Jhonattan Vegas his new car after being the second person this week to make an ACE on the 15th hole. The ace helped Vegas get a top five this week. Scott Stallings was the other player to win one this week.
The Dads Say So that that The Honda Classic didn’t disappoint. It was a great event with a great champion who may be a better person than he is a golfer, and his he a great golfer. Rickie winning is one of the things that is great for the game and helps the game grow. He makes it fun to watch golf. He may struggle in getting it into the house and with a 5 shot lead fire one in the water on 17 when he should have been aiming 15 feet left and not even looking at the flag, but hey when were out there playing we like to fire at flag sticks too so he made more birdies than everyone else he deserves to be taking the trophy home with him. Here’s to Rickie getting a Major this year, it will help grow the game!
