The 2017 Genesis Open will be remembered for a couple of things. First the suspension of play on Friday which caused, what seemed like never ending golf over the weekend to finish play on Sunday; plenty of WD’s, including one from a press conference; and at the end of the day on Sunday a new world number one!
Riviera was amazing as usual. It is a classic course that always provides the viewers with amazing images and some great golf played by the winners.
Holes like 6 would be laughed at by course designers today for putting a bunker in the middle of the green. Then the 10th is 315 yards and plays over par by the best players in the world, proving you don’t need a 500 yard par 4 to be difficult.
Dustin Johnson was playing a different golf course than the rest of the field this week. He knew going in where he stood with a win and Jason Day finishing anywhere outside of third alone. There wasn’t much drama when all was said and done with Day not finishing close to the first page of the leader board.
Wesley Bryan had a great week, getting his first top 5 finish. Obviously the battlefield promotion from the Web.com tour last season isn’t a fluke and he has figured out how to hit more than trick shots.
Pat Perez had another great week. He is starting to be an ATM machine out there just cashing good paychecks week in and week out.
At the end of the day, the Dads Say So that thinking back to the last few years we all need to tip our hats to Dustin Johnson. He has battled some demons, overcome a heart breaking 3 putt loss at the US Open and has now not only won a US Open but on Monday morning when we wake up and turn on Morning Drive he will be the new World Number 1. Oh yeah, and have a new baby on the way
with Paulina Gretzky . Congrats from TheGolfingDads to Dustin, another golfing dad, you deserve it.
