23 years ago Tiger Woods (and Nike) told everyone “Hello World!” Tonight he joined Sam Snead on the mantle with the most wins ever with his 82nd win at the ZOZO Championship.
I grew up in an era of watching the GOAT, Michael Jordan, compete better than anyone ever has, wearing number 23. Fitting that 23 years later Tiger gets his 82nd win.
When you think back over the last 82 wins there are so many amazing moments. The first win in Las Vegas. The first major, lapping the field at Augusta. The dominance at places like Firestone, Bay Hill, Torrey Pines, and Muirfield Village. Walking a putt in at The PGA. The British Open wins. Winning on a broke leg at The US Open. The wins at The Players. The comeback at The Tour Championship. The 2019 Masters.
Between the injuries, yips and comebacks being able to watch the 82nd win tonight was really amazing. While there was not a real defining shot this week getting this victory will go down as important as the first win in Vegas and the first green jacket!
While Tiger has always looked towards Jack Nicklaus’ major victory record of 18 to be able to get number 82 on what is 10 years younger than Snead when he got his 82nd win is a remarkable feat. After this years win at The Masters and now getting his 82nd win we have a lot to look forward to come April. I am looking forward to seeing if he can get the last 3 majors to tie Jack.
Dads Say So, 82 wins. 7 countries. 15 majors. I have said it before, and Steve Sands stole my line earlier, Tiger Woods doesn’t move the needle, he is the needle. Watching tonight was as exciting as any major. I was in doubt of him being a playing captain for The Presidents Cup before this week. Not any more. I look forward to see the next story the GOAT will wright, as I’m sure all of you do to!
