When going on a golf vacation, everyone has their own routine. We are firm believers of getting someplace early and getting in a round the day you arrive to maximize the amount of time you get to spend on the golf course.
Heading out for the Super Bowl of Golf, Mohit and I left Orlando very early in the morning and connected through Atlanta (needing to go from gate F to A in 40 minutes). We made it to Las Vegas to start our trip playing at Arroyo at Red Rock Golf club.
Located about 25 minutes from the strip, this course sits at the base of the Red Rock Mountains. This course is the public course in a housing development. We joined up with Sandy from New Jersey and headed out to the first tee.
The opening hole is a straight away par 5. The tee shot looks more intimidating than it really is and the green is well guarded so you need to make sure you pick the correct club if you are going to go for the green in 2.
The third hole is a uphill par 3 that has a green that has a lot of slope in the middle of it so if you are on the wrong side of it you will have a very difficult 2 putt. Number seven is our favorite par 3 on the course. This downhill hole has a great view of Las Vegas and the Strip from the tee. Club selection is important from the tee as there is a bunker left of the green and water long.
One of my favorite views on the golf course comes at the 6th green. As you walk up from the carts to the green you look back down the 2nd fairway and there are mountains in the distance.
The back 9 has some really cool holes including both of the par 5’s (11 and 16) as well as a great long par 3 in number 13. The back 9 has some position holes as well as some great risk/reward holes. Depending on the wind you can be really aggressive and give yourself some great chances for birdies.
A couple of the things that we really liked about the course were the amazing conditions and the amazing service. The greens were in great shape and the ball was almost like it was on a tee when it was in the fairway. When we got to the course we didn’t know where the first tee was so the kid who was working at the bag drop rode us out to the first hole, as it was a long way from the club house. Everyone from the staff in the pro shop, to the bartender, to the outside service team were awesome! We couldn’t have asked for better service.
When you live in flat Florida and you end up at a golf course with a mountain right next to it you tend to spend some time getting lost with the views. It was my first time playing golf in the desert and there were times that I found myself staring at the views in between shots. As a result, our round took a little longer than expected.
Dad’s Say So, our trip to Vegas started off great with an amazing round at Arroyo at Red Rock after landing. We’re big fans of playing on the day that you land somewhere and this was the perfect location. Finding an awesome course that was conveniently located to the airport and our hotel was awesome. If you live in Las Vegas or are visiting you need to make sure that Arroyo at Red Rock is on your must play list. The conditions are second to none. The views are amazing. The layout is great!
