Many of you remember that back in January my friends and I won the NFL Alumni Association Pro Bowl Tournament in Orlando, FL.  The winners received an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Super Bowl of Golf at TPC Las Vegas.

The tournament was held on Saturday, April 14th as part of the annual meeting for the NFL Alumni Association.  We had an awesome time in Las Vegas and have some great golf course reviews coming up from not only TPC Las Vegas but also Wolf Creek and Arroyo at Red Rock.

The host hotel for the event was Caesars Palace.  We had never stayed at Caesars Palace before and were amazed at the grandeur and amenities that this resort had to offer..

As part of the event, there was a great reception on Friday night for the participants to attend.  We enjoyed a lot of mingling with NFL personalities and invited guests as well as a great buffet dinner.  The highlight of the evening came after dinner where we were able to hang out with a few of the former NFL players, listening to stories of being in the league, laughing and having a great time.

Most of us headed off to bed early as we had an 8am shotgun start the following morning.  We were paired up with NFL Hall of Fame Member Charlie Joiner. We felt pretty lucky as we had the only Hall of Famer on our team.  Not only was Charlie one of the most friendly and nicest people we encountered, HE HAS GAME!!!! Throughout the day, he never missed a fairway and allowed the bigger hitters to step up and bomb it!

All the teams had their own official scorer that rode with them.  Our team was honored to have Dave Brazell and boy was he GREAT! He laughed and joked with all of us and ultimately, was our 6th man.  It was great to have a scorer with every group as it added a level of legitimacy to the event in relation to the scoring.

It took us a few holes to make our first birdie after starting on 11.  We had a couple good looks at putts but just couldn’t get one to fall.

We finished the day with Mohit making a bomb for birdie on our final hole, the only put of distance we made all day.  We finished the day at -7, not making enough birdies at all to get the job done.

The ultimate winner was determined by a sudden death play off of the top 3 teams.  Congratulations to Ron Jaworski and his team from Philly in defending their title!

While the playoff ensued, we had another great buffet lunch and mingled around with the other teams….. yet, another highlight.

The mission for the NFL Alumni Association is “Caring For Our Own & Caring For Kids.”  This is something that is near and dear to our heart and as dads we love anything that is supportive to children.  The really cool part of the NFL Alumni Association is that it is open for anyone to join.  If you support their cause and are not a former member of an organization (player, cheerleader, front office professional or spouse) you can join as an Associate for only $150 a year.  If you click here it will take you to their page to sign up for memberships. Do yourself a favor and check this out as there are quite a few “perks” of being a member.   If you are former league member, you need to join. If you believe in the cause, you need to join as well.

I would like to say thank you to a few of the great companies who sent us stuff for the tournament.  First to Yonex for our team staff bags, they were amazing! Oakley for our shirts and eyewear! Vessel for our tour straps for the bags.  Srixon Golf for golf balls! Liberty Ball Markers for some great personalized ball markers for the event! Last, but definitely not least, MG Golf Towels for some great towels that looked great on our bags and carts!

Dads Say So, while we didn’t win the Super Bowl of Golf we had an amazing time in Las Vegas.  Thank you to the great team from the NFL Alumni Office (Carolyn, Lina and Bernadette) for putting on a great event and being amazing hosts.    From staying at Caesars Palace, the welcome reception and ultimately the tournament, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. We are already looking forward to playing in our local event later this year and trying to get into next year’s tournament at Pinehurst No. 4!  To find out more information about the NFL Alumni Association click here for their website.  If you are looking for their calendar of events to find out when the next tournament is click here!  Hopefully you can get out there and try to qualify yourself and battle us next year for the Super Bowl of Golf Rings!
