After the first round, I expected round two of The Masters to go a lot like round one did. This is why they make all of the players put the tee in the ground and play the game.
Mr. “I Always Lead” Jordan Spieth struggled out of the gate. He made a double bogey on 1 and a bogey on 2 he fought to a 74 and will start his third round at -4, still having the leaders in sight.
Four time Masters Champion Tiger Woods struggled with his distance control all day. He made a bogey on the first from 93 yards. He had to take an unplayable lie on 5 leading to a double bogey. He continued to struggle all day to shoot 75 and barley make the cut.
My pick for the week, Bubba Watson, worked his way up the leaderboard today. He finished the day shooting a -3 69 and his heading to the weekend 7 shots back.
The round of the day belonged to the leader at the halfway point, Captain America, Patrick Reed. Reed matched Speith’s first round total of 66 on an extremely difficult day. He has made a birdie on all 8 of the par 5’s he has played this week and is -1 on the remaining 28 holes. He heads to the weekend at -9 and is 2 shots clear of Marc Leishman who shot a -5 67 today.
Among the players missing the half way cut were the defending champion, Sergio Garcia, fan favorites Jason Duffner, Shubhankar Sharma, Kevin Chappel and Gary Woodland. Garcia will hang around Augusta all weekend as he will be presenting the winner with their green jacket.
Dads Say So, the weekend forecast doesn’t look like that Mother Nature will cooperate with a weekend of sunshine. There is a 100% chance of rain in Augusta, GA on Saturday. This will really impact how much golf gets played on Saturday and then how many holes they need to play on Sunday. While the rain normally allows the players to fire at flag sticks, Augusta has a Sub Air system that allows them to keep the greens as hard as they would like them to be. Of the top 8 players chasing Reed, 6 of them have won a major championship! With the talent of players on the leaderboard it is shaping up to be an exciting weekend!
