Team events are great for golf. In a couple weeks the PGA Tour will be competing in the Presidents Cup. This weekend it was the LPGA Tours match play event also know as the Solheim Cup.
The USA was the defending champion so all they needed to do is get 14 points to retain the cup. When Lizette Salas made a par on the last hole she won her match and it gave the US 14 1/2 points and they retained the cup.
For those of you who didn’t watch this week the first couple days were very one sided. The USA team dominated day 1 and then on Saturday it was more of an even match.
Sunday started with the European team getting out to some leads and putting the blue flag on the board. Anna Nordqvist was 4 up through 4 holes over Lexi Thompson. Lexi rallied, including a hole out on 12 and rallied to halve the match, a point that really was a rally point for the US team.
Players on both teams were making putts from all over the place today. It seemed that if you outside of 40 feet you had a chance to hole a putt. It was really fun to watch the matches go back and forth. Putts like this can be huge momentum swinging putts in match play and both sides made them today.
Dads Say So, first, congratulations to the USA team. Getting a win in these team competitions is always awesome. Secondly, if you missed this today you missed some amazing golf by both teams. The team events are fun to watch and the Solheim Cup was no different. Next time its in America we are going to try to attend and you should go too!
