Today was cut day at The PGA Championship. There were a few players after their first round that needed to have a great second roundin order to just play on the weekend. There were a few others who have put themselves in a great position going into the weekend to make a charge. All of this was mixed in with a nice weather delay as well which makes the day that much more fun for the players.
Going back out early this morning Kevin Kisner decided that he was going to post another 67 and got in a -8 through 2 rounds. Hideki Matsuyama decided that he didn’t want Kisner to be alone at the top and played the best round in two days shooting 64 to get into a tie at -8. The question tomorrow is how does he back that great round up which is always the hardest thing to do. Francesco Molonari equaled the 64 score today to get him to -5 through 2 rounds.
Due to some rain this afternoon the second round was not able to be completed today. It was a lot of fun to watch the guys trying to finish their round and running from greens to tees and teeing off so the rest of the team could finish. The players didn’t want to come back out at 730am tomorrow to finish their second round and play one hole and finish. Jason Day did this and got into the house 2 shots back at -6 and in a great position to not only sleep in tomorrow but will be in one of the final pairings going out.
The projected cut appears to be +6. We wont know until tomorrow but there are currently 76 players at +6 so players that are currently on the outside of the cut line are the likes of Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and the defending champ Jimmy Walker.
Dads Say So it sucks that players have to come back tomorrow morning to complete their second round. As the leaderboard is shaping up for the weekend it is going to be a fun weekend. It is going to see if Jason Day can put up a challenge and get his second major. It would also be nice to see Hideki get his first major. With a little over 36 holes remaining there is a lot of golf to play and it is going to be fun to watch. Lets hope that Mother Nature cooperates.
