Today, Steph Curry the Point Guard for the NBA Champs, teed it up in the Ellie Mae Classic on the Web.com Tour. We few weeks back we addressed this sponsors invite and today was the day to see if he belonged.
His goals for teeing it up today were to hit one off the first tee and make the cut. He did advance one off the first tee and he is going to be fighting an uphill battle on Friday to make the cut.
On his first hole today Curry hooked his opening drive and when they found it, it was in the cup holder of a golf cart. Now for those of us who play know how hard it can be to get to get your phone, beverage of choice or anything else you can think to get in the cup holder while sitting in the cart to do it with a 3 wood makes him look like shooting a three pointer is nothing.
Curry’s round consisted of 3 birdies, 5 bogeys and a double. He shot a respectable 74 (+4) and currently has him in a tie for 146th place. Not the best position to be in trying to make the cut but still very respectable.
Dads Say So Curry, another golfing dad, definitely didn’t embarrass himself today. He played great seeing that it was his first time in that environment. Sure he isn’t lurking behind the leaders but he also didn’t shoot 100. Making 3 birdies is great. In a day where players were asking for pictures on the driving range and he hooped one in a cup holder from 250 a 74 is a great score for one of the greatest NBA players in the planet to do something he doesn’t live for 365 days a year. He should prove the negative people wrong when they said he didn’t deserve the sponsors invite.
