This week at the Quicken Loans National started with news that the unofficial host, Tiger Woods, wasn’t going to be in attendance while he works on his recovery process. There was a lot of talk about the field this week not being up to standard as only 1 player in the top 10 in the world was in the field.
After 36 holes it looked like David Lingmerth was going to run away and hide from the field but as they say, that’s why they play 4 rounds. He had the lead going into the final round by 1 shot but didn’t play well on Sunday and at the end of the day Charles Howell III and Kyle Stanley found themselves in a playoff.
The playoff began on 18 and Stanley hit first hitting one right of the planet and into a matted down lie in the gallery. Howell hit one down the right side of the fairway.
Howell played his approach shot first and missed the green right and Stanley hit his just through the green. Howell played his chip shot first and came up about 10 feet short. Stanley chipped down to about 5 feet.
Howell putted first and missed his par putt and Stanley knocked his five footer in to secure his first victory in 5 years!
Dads Say So this playoff was tough to root for. Both players have had some tough luck in the last few years and getting a victory was going to be great for both of them. Congrats to Kyle Stanley for getting the victory today. Its a great win and hopefully will propel him to the next level. Maybe next week Charles Howell III will get the win at The Greenbrier!
