We all have our own “dudes” or “dudettes” that we play golf with on a regular basis. There is a group of “5 Dudes” from Texas that have invented a simple putting gate system to give you a great visual aid not only as to where to start the ball but to also the line that the putt should travel on. They call themselves 5dudesgolf.com (we like the originality of it)!
The putting gate system comes with a red brace that you rest an alignment stick on and you can hook up to one of the three different sized “gates” for you to practice with. When you put the alignment stick in the holder and line your ball under it there is a great visual aid of being down the line and where the ball needs to start.
The three “Gates” vary in size with 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 inches wide to work on shrinking down the line where you are trying to hit the ball. If you are working on focusing your line down to a smaller one you can use a 2.5 inch gate to work on shrinking the line down or if you are working on longer lag putts you can use the 4.5 inch gate.
We think that the only set back for this is setting this up if you are a beginner trying to set it up for high breaking putts. We could see where it would be difficult for someone who is new at golf with it taking longer to set up correctly but it can be done.
If you follow the PGA Tour and any of the players on social media many of them are out there practicing with the 5dudesgolf.com putting gate system. They are the best putters in the world.
A great drill to work with it on is for shorter putts. Take the smallest gate (2.5 inches) and work on 3 foot putts. At that speed being online is very important and you can practice those dreaded putts and get great feedback right away to see if you are on line or hitting one of the legs of the gate. This will help you build confidence to be aggressive on longer putts so you know you are going to make the come backers if you miss.
Dads Say So the putting gate system is an amazing training aid to help you improve your putting. You can really work on improving you line and getting a great visualization how how putts break and where you need to hit them. Click here to see our review of it! If you struggle with finding a line this also helps with green reading as you can take the visualization of the gates out onto the course and figure out how the putt would break based on where the gates would be. The Dudes have really figured out a great aid that can help each and every one of us improve our putting and make it fun to practice.
