Sunday in San Antonio, TX turned into an old fashioned Texas Shootout after the winds and cold weather on Saturday made scoring difficult to say the least. The scoring average on Saturday was +2.34 strokes over par. This brought the field back together.
The weather was much better on Sunday and it lead to much better scoring. This lead to a bunched up leaderboard and set up a great finish. Kevin Chappell walked off with a birdie on the last hole for the one shot victory.
Chappell has played in over 100 PGA Tour events and had finished in the top 10 way too many times to not have a win yet. Finally breaking though makes it great for him to be a winner and punch his ticket to Hawaii in January.
Brooks Koepka, Kevin Tway, and Tony Finau all played some great golf and came up just short on getting the victory. Chappell made a birdie on the 72nd hole to beat them all.
Dads Say So that it was great to see Kevin Chappell and his family celebrate the victory on 18 today. He has gotten some bad breaks and maybe hasn’t putted well enough on Sunday to get wins prior to this. Hopefully this propels him to get more wins. TheGolfingDads love to see it when another golfing dad gets a “W” on tour. We also love it when a guy gets his first win out there and hope that it will propel his career.
