There comes a time in every professional athletes life where you need to decide if it is time to retire. For some athletes they realize they aren’t as strong or fast as the younger guys. Some times their body lets them down and injuries wont allow them to do the things they used to do or hurt too much when they try to.
Today, Tiger Woods had his 4th surgery on his back. This was a much different procedure on his back and they are saying that it was minimally invasive and he will have a full recovery and be back playing in six months. SIX MONTHS? This is the fourth procedure he has had. He is going to take the recovery slow and they are saying SIX MONTHS? If he is back in six month then we will let our wives write our posts for a week.
We think that Tiger will be at the Hero in the Bahamas as a spectator in December and will be lucky if he tees it up at Torrey Pines in January. Realistically he returns at his event at Riviera in February if he comes back.
Tiger and his agent, Mark Steinberg, have never been 100% truthful in giving us the full extent of his medical issues, so why should we assume they will start now? Just two days ago he was hitting wedges and saying that his back was progressing. So this escalated quickly?
When Tiger withdrew from Dubai we questioned if he was closer to hitting ceremonial tee shots at Augusta than he was to competing in The Masters. Many of our friends thought we were crazy for speculating that but this will be the second year in a row where he will not play in any of the major championships.
Dads Say So we desperately want Tiger to return to golf. Tiger is the most influential person the game has ever seen. He is the golf needle the world over. He brings people to the game because he makes it cool. When Tiger is playing well the game is in great hands other than the fact it makes it hard for us to find tee times and the courses charge more because the demand is up. If that is a bad problem to have then so be it. It beats 10 courses closing to every 1 that opens. Here is to hoping that Tiger takes his time and doesn’t rush. We would love to take our kids to see him play verses telling them about seeing all of the amazing things we all witnessed.
