The 2017 Shell Houston Open went from being the Sung Kang run away to a great event on Sunday. Russell Henley made 10 birdies to secure his victory in Houston.
Henley shot 65 on Sunday to win by three strokes. More importantly he secured his ticket to Augusta National next week and will be playing in The Masters.
Shell the presenting sponsor is in their last year as title sponsor and will not be renewing their sponsorship of the Houston Open ending a long standing tenure of sponsorship on the PGA Tour. This is a disappointing end to a great partnership that has been ongoing from the Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf days.
Dads Say So were happy for Russell Henley. The reason players show up this week if they are not exempt next week is it gives them one last shot to getting into The Masters field. Were happy that someone won who was not exempt to play next week got in and not get a vacation week. The Tour was also smart today in sending out everyone in threesomes of split tees to so that they could complete the round and get everyone onto to Augusta for The Masters. Having the ability to do that is awesome and great for everyone involved.
