Steve had an opportunity to play golf with some students and faculty members from Georgian College and their Golf Management Program. Georgian College is located about an hour from Toronto in Ontario and has about 3000 students.
They are in Florida for their spring break to get some golf in as well as see some different golf sites. On Sunday a group of them went down to South Florida to attend The Honda Classic. They are playing a lot of golf in Central Florida and they are visiting some other great golfing sites like Bay Hill Club and Lodge and they are going down the The Nicklaus Design Groups Headquarters to see how they design golf courses.
Programs like this are great to help grow the game and teach college age kids the future of the game. They are very comprehensive in the materials they cover and even though Georgian is in Canada they give their students the opportunity to come to Florida twice a year to not only practice and play but to learn from some great experiences. They also have indoor practice facilities that include simulators and a TrackMan for the students to practice on during the frigid winter months.
Dads Say So that if your son or daughter has an interest in golf and pursuing it as a career finding them opportunities like this to go to college is a great one because it gives you the opportunity to learn not just in a classroom environment but also getting real world hands on experience on trips like this one
but also on their co-ops so that they are ready to help grow the game going forward. Kudos to Georgian College in trying to keep the future bright in the golf business for years to come.
